Florence, South Carolina – A broken water line turned an ordinary morning into an urgent repair operation along Savannah Grove Road. City Utility crews are working to restore normal service after an 8-inch main began losing a significant amount of water.
The leak has been shut off and isolated, but its effects are being felt beyond the immediate repair site. Customers across the Alligator Road service area may notice low water pressure and changes in water quality while the work continues.
Crews responded to the break and successfully closed valves around the damaged section. Isolating the line allows workers to make the necessary repairs while limiting further water loss.

Because the damaged pipe is a larger main, the interruption has reduced pressure throughout the surrounding service area. City officials said the combination of the main’s size and the amount of water already lost could also lead to discoloration or other temporary water quality concerns.
Once repairs are finished, water operators will begin flushing lines near Savannah Grove Road. The flushing process is intended to move fresh water through the system and reduce the chance that sediment or discolored water will remain in nearby pipes.
Residents who see discolored water coming from their faucets should allow their internal water lines to run until the water becomes clear. Customers may need to flush more than one fixture to clear discoloration from their household plumbing.

The city has not provided a specific completion time for the repair. Utility crews will continue working at the site and monitoring conditions as pressure returns to the system.
