South Carolina Attorney General brings in outside consultant for Silfab Solar review

South Carolina – South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson is moving into the next phase of review in the Silfab Solar matter, announcing that his office has brought in an outside consultant with experience in zoning and local government issues connected to the situation in York County.

The decision comes after months of communication between the Attorney General’s office, Silfab Solar, and York County Council. Those exchanges followed earlier reports of leaks at the solar panel manufacturing plant, which raised concerns among residents and prompted questions about the process surrounding the facility.

According to Wilson’s office, the outside consultant will examine documents already received by the Attorney General’s office. The consultant’s role will be to review the materials and offer a professional opinion on the process that was followed.

“My office has heard the concerns of many South Carolinians regarding this situation,” Attorney General Wilson stated.

“Public safety is of the utmost importance to our office, and we want to do the right thing for our state.”

The announcement does not describe the consultant’s work as a final decision in the matter. Instead, it marks another step in the state’s review as officials continue sorting through the record tied to the York County project. By bringing in a professional with knowledge of zoning and local government matters, Wilson’s office is seeking additional guidance on the questions that have surrounded the case.

Silfab Solar has been the subject of attention in York County after the initial reports of leaks earlier this year. Since then, the issue has moved beyond the facility itself and into a wider discussion involving local government procedures, public confidence, and safety concerns.

Wilson’s statement makes clear that his office has been listening to residents who have raised questions about the matter. The review by the outside consultant is expected to focus on the documents and the steps taken during the process, giving the Attorney General’s office another layer of analysis before determining what comes next.

For now, the matter remains under review. The Attorney General’s office has not announced a final outcome, but Wilson’s latest move signals that the state is continuing to examine the situation carefully before taking further action.
