“You’re a lying fraud”: Angry Americans explode and flood replies with rage as Jim Jordan praises Trump economy

Ohio – Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan tried to turn Friday’s new jobs report into a political victory lap for President Donald Trump. Instead, the post quickly became a flashpoint for frustration, with X users filling the replies with anger over gas prices, groceries, inflation, layoffs and the wider state of the economy.

Jordan, a Republican congressman from Ohio and one of Trump’s most loyal defenders in Congress, shared a Fox News graphic after the April jobs numbers were released.

His message was short and confident: “Strong April jobs report. Added 115,000 new jobs — nearly double expectations. President Trump’s economy is working.”

The number itself was real enough.

The U.S. economy added 115,000 jobs in April, beating forecasts, while the unemployment rate stayed at 4.3%, according to reports on the new labor data.

But the political celebration landed in the middle of a much rougher public mood. Even coverage of the report noted that the gains came alongside continued pressure from inflation, high gas prices tied to the Iran conflict, and uncertainty in key parts of the labor market.

That tension is what made Jordan’s post explode.

Within minutes, the replies became less about the headline jobs number and more about the daily strain many Americans say they are feeling.

Critics accused Jordan of ignoring what families see every week at the pump, at the grocery store and when paying rent, mortgages or credit card bills. For them, a jobs report was not enough to erase the cost-of-living pressure that has become one of the biggest political liabilities for Republicans.

“gymmy gymmy gymmy – failed republican policies have put gas at $5 a gallon and groceries at $100 a bag plus you added $5 trillion to the national debt in 2025 – now hustle out there gymmy and protect more child molesters,” one user commented.

Another user argued that Jordan’s post showed why he should be voted out

“Yeah this shows everything about Jim Jordan and why he needs to be gone. This guy is one of the dumbest. This isn’t even close to accurate when you look up ACTUAL facts. I know that’s hard for you to do but I believe in you,” the user wrote.

The backlash reflected a broader problem for Republicans. Trump and his allies have tried to frame the economy as recovering and resilient.

The April report gave them a number they could promote. But critics say the figure does not match the lived reality of households facing higher costs and uncertainty.

A labor market can add jobs while still leaving people feeling worse off if wages do not stretch as far, if prices remain elevated, or if workers fear layoffs in their own industries.

That point appeared repeatedly in the comments under Jordan’s post.

One X user claimed, “Every single revised report since this administration has taken office shows that they actually LOSE jobs. Stop lying to the people, Jim.”

Another accused Jordan and other Republicans of applying a different standard now than they used under President Joe Biden.

“You’re a Lying Fraud!! Funny how you and your fellow lying frauds railed on Biden for a jobs report under 150k per month. Conman Trump averaged 57/mth in all of 2025 and 76/mth YTD 2026!” the user wrote.

The anger was not limited to partisan name-calling. Some replies focused on the gap between political messaging and economic anxiety.

“Tone deaf you are,” one user wrote. “Many thousands of lay-offs across industries. People are crushed by inflation and high gas and everything and now losing jobs. Don’t tell people everything is great just to pump Trump’s tires! It’s annoying.”

That message captured the heart of the response: many users did not deny that jobs had been added. They argued that Jordan was celebrating too loudly, too soon, and with too little concern for people who do not feel the economy is “working” for them.

The Iran war added another layer to the criticism. Opponents of the administration have argued that the conflict has created new costs and risks for ordinary Americans while offering little direct benefit to working families.

In the replies, one user connected the jobs report to that broader frustration, writing, “Unemployment remained the same so there were just as many jobs lost as jobs created!!! Which means this isn’t that impressive!! Imagine spending billions here in our own country instead of spending it on a war we have no business being involved with!!”

Another reply aimed directly at household expenses:

“Sure Gym. You are delusional. $5 a gallon gas, interest rates still high, housing costs sky high, and a trip to the grocery store costs a fortune that many end up charging their grocery bill to a credit card and not paying it off every month.”

Jordan’s post was part of a larger Republican push on Friday to spotlight the April jobs data as proof that Trump’s economic approach is producing results.

But the reaction showed how difficult that argument may be heading into the midterms. A positive monthly number can help shape a message, but it cannot fully control the public mood.

Jordan wanted to highlight a strong jobs figure. The comment section turned it into a public complaint board about prices, layoffs, debt, war and trust.

And instead of giving Republicans a clean victory lap, the post exposed a much messier reality: many voters are not judging the economy by one jobs number. They are judging it by the bill in their hand, the balance on their card, the price on the gas pump, and whether the people in power seem to understand any of it.
