Second Chipotle set to expand Florence dining scene with new South Irby Street location

Florence, South Carolina – A second Chipotle is on the way to Florence, adding another familiar stop for burritos, bowls and tacos along one of the city’s busiest commercial stretches.

According to the Post and Courier, company representative Mohit Patel said the fast-casual Mexican chain is expected to open its new Florence location later this summer.

When it does, it will mark Chipotle’s second restaurant in the city and another expansion point for a brand that already has more than 50 locations across South Carolina.

The upcoming restaurant is planned for South Irby Street, a site that has been moving through local development steps for months.

Plans for the location were first submitted to the city last summer. Later, during a July 2025 council meeting, an ordinance was introduced to annex and zone 2037 and 2111 S. Irby St. for commercial use.

The project now appears to be taking shape next to a recently shuttered business. One of the properties had previously housed the Salvation Army Thrift Store, which announced on social media in March 2026 that it would close because of the cost of repairing the building. The new Chipotle is set to open next door to that former store site, directly across from Chick-fil-A and the Walmart Supercenter.

That placement gives the restaurant a high-traffic location in a well-traveled part of Florence, where retail and dining continue to cluster. For the company, it also builds on an already established presence in the city. Florence’s existing Chipotle operates at 2617 David H. McLeod Blvd., near Panda Express and Magnolia Mall.

Chipotle has built its name around customizable meals, allowing customers to assemble burritos, tacos, salads and bowls with a range of ingredients. Diners can choose proteins like chicken, steak, barbacoa or vegetables, then finish their order with toppings such as pinto beans, roasted chili-corn salsa, sour cream and guacamole.

For now, the opening date remains tied to the pace of construction and development. Company officials said more details about the new Florence restaurant will be shared as the project moves forward.
