Florence prepares to mark Arbor Day on December 5 with a community gathering at Dr. Iola Jones Park

Florence, South Carolina – Florence is getting ready for its annual Arbor Day celebration, which will be a community event on Friday, December 5, 2025. The event will start at 10:00 a.m. at Dr. Iola Jones Park on East Maxwell Street. People from the area will join together to celebrate the city’s long-standing dedication to its urban forest.

The Florence City Council officially recognized December 5 as Arbor Day within the city limits earlier this month. This shows how important it is to protect and maintain green spaces. Florence has always met the requirements to be called Tree City USA, a designation the city has held for an astonishing 45 years in a row. This title shows that Florence is consistently putting money into caring for the environment, managing trees, and getting people involved.

This year’s celebration will be musical performances by students from North Vista Elementary School, which will make the event more festive. After that, the Parks & Beautification Commission and members of the Environmental Science & Studies Club at Francis Marion University will plant a special tree. Their work together shows that there are still initiatives to get both local groups and young people who care about the environment involved in changing the city’s landscape.

Duke Energy is paying for this year’s tree planting, which is part of its ongoing support for environmental projects that help the community. The new tree shows that Florence remains dedicated to making public places better and being more environmentally friendly.

Residents are urged to come and join in the fun. The event is not only a way to honor the city’s environmental accomplishments, but it is also a reminder of how important it is for people to get involved in keeping Florence’s natural beauty year after year.
