Florence Police lead campaign to collect expired prescriptions at Walmart site

Florence, South Carolina – On Saturday, October 25, 2025, Florence residents will be able to safely get rid of old or unwanted pharmaceuticals during the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event will be held at the Walmart at 230 North Beltline Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Florence Police Department helped organize this national campaign, which asks people to clean out their medication closets and get rid of expired prescriptions. The purpose is to keep people from misusing drugs, accidentally taking them, and possibly becoming addicted by making sure that they are thrown away in a safe and responsible way.

Organizers said that they will take any prescribed medicine without asking any questions. But the collection facility won’t take needles, sharp objects, or drugs that are against the law. Before you drop off liquid prescriptions, make sure they are still in their original containers.

The Florence Police Department pointed out that throwing away prescriptions correctly lowers the chance of overdosing and deaths caused by overdoses. This kind of occurrence also keeps toxic compounds out of the community’s sewage and water systems, where they could be bad for people’s health and the environment in other ways.

Twice a year, the DEA holds Take Back Day events across the United States. These events are an important aspect of the fight against prescription drug abuse. Every year, thousands of pounds of leftover drugs are collected at sites that are part of the program. This helps keep families safe and lowers the chances of drug abuse.
