Columbia to unveil revitalized Mays Park with ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 19

Columbia, South Carolina – On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the City of Columbia will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Mays Park to honor the completion of a major park restoration. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. at 1521 Deans Lane, near the intersection of Trenholm Road and Beltline Boulevard.

The Columbia Parks & Recreation Department has done a lot of work to improve Mays Park, which has been a place for local families to have fun for a long time. The improvements contain a lot of new features that will be useful for people of all ages.

Some of the best things are a splash pad for kids, new pickleball and tennis courts, and a basketball tree. The park now has new site furnishings, updated playgrounds, open green spaces, and a rain garden to make it more welcoming and comfortable for guests.

The park will officially reopen with a ribbon cutting ceremony that will include city officials and community leaders. Along with Parks and Recreation officials, Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, Councilman Peter M. Brown, City Manager Teresa Wilson, and Assistant City Manager Henry Simons are expected to be there. Members of the community are welcome to attend to the celebration and experience the changes for themselves.

The upgrades show that Columbia remains dedicated to putting money into community spaces that promote health, enjoyment, and connection. The city wants to make Mays Park safer and more welcoming for families, athletes, and casual visitors by adding new facilities and updating the park.

The celebration not only shows how Mays Park has changed, but it also shows how the city continues to strive to improve public facilities across Columbia. The park is projected to become an even busier center for the areas around it with its new attractions and updated look.

People who live in the area and go to the reopening will be some of the first to see the new improvements and enjoy a location that combines nature, play, and sports in the middle of the neighborhood.
