City of Florence urges rental property owners to update records and permits on time, deadline is June 30

Florence, South Carolina – It’s that time of year again for Florence’s residential rental property owners: the renewal period for rental permits covering the 2025-2026 fiscal year is now underway. City authorities are reminding all landlords that by June 30, 2025, applications and payments for permits for the following year must be submitted.

Every residential rental property in the City of Florence must have a current permit to run legally inside city limits. Annual audits help to guarantee the safety and quality of rental homes, keep correct records, and promote neighborhood well-being.

Those who got an official letter from the city but do not actually own any rental property should notify the Planning Department immediately. Any changes in ownership or status therefore must be recorded as city staff works to maintain the rental registration accurate and up-to-date. You can contact the Planning Department by phone at 843-665-2047 or by email at mailto:[email protected].

Should a property owner choose not to rent out their unit at all between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, the city requests these individuals to get in touch to obtain a Waiver Signature Card. Officially removing a property from the rental register for the year, this card helps to maintain city records clear and preventing unnecessary fees or notices.

Landlords who now own five or more rental units, or whose properties are under a commercial or corporate structure, should also contact the Planning Department for advice on how to proceed. In such situations, a business license could be necessary to be in line with city rules when a standard rental permit is inadequate.

More information about the city’s rental permit requirements—including details on the renewal process, important deadlines, and forms—can be found on the City of Florence’s official website. Residents and property owners are encouraged to visit cityofflorence.com/planning-research-and-development/residential-rental-registry for up-to-date details.

Any questions about the renewal process or specific circumstances can be directed to the Planning Department by calling 843-665-2047 or sending an email to [email protected]. City officials stress the importance of meeting the June 30 deadline to avoid penalties and keep properties in good standing for the coming year.
