Community invited to join Florence’s Arbor Day event on December 6 and support green initiatives

Florence, South Carolina – The City of Florence is set to celebrate its annual Arbor Day Observance on Friday, December 6, 2024, marking a tradition that underscores the community’s commitment to its urban forest. Set to take place at 10:00 a.m. at Southside Middle School, the event will be organized in cooperation with the City of Florence Parks & Beautification Commission. Residents are encouraged to attend and take part in this meaningful occasion.

Declaring December 6 as Arbor Day in Florence officially, the City Council confirmed the celebration of this year by enacting a resolution during its November meeting. This proclamation emphasizes the continuous commitment of the city to create a better, healthier surroundings. It also represents Florence’s long-standing reputation as a Tree City USA, an honor earned by the Arbor Day Foundation for an astounding 44 consecutive years.

Arbor Day reminds us all of the vital part trees play in building active, environmentally friendly communities. Florence’s urban forest not only makes the city more beautiful but also offers important advantages including better air quality, lower urban heat, and a natural habitat for wildlife. Florence shows its leadership in urban forestry and environmental protection by regularly meeting the requirements for Tree City USA designation.
