Police chase results in crash on I-126 Eastbound in Columbia

Columbia, South Carolina – A police chase resulted in a collision on Interstate 126 East in Columbia, as reported by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 2:30 pm on Friday, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office alerted RCSD about a suspect in a Nissan Versa who was sought after.

When RCSD deputies spotted the car, they tried to pull it over. However, the driver didn’t stop and led the deputies in a pursuit.

Near Colonial Life Boulevard on I-126, the driver deliberately veered into the opposite lane and collided directly with an oncoming car, as stated by the police.

The injured person was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

During the event, the suspect’s car struck two additional vehicles.

Officials declared the suspect deceased at the location of the accident.

The suspect was being sought for drug-related offenses, according to the authorities.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation.

The RCSD deputies are advising drivers to take different roads currently.
