Columbia man wanted for last week’s murder denied bond, faces three charges

Columbia, South Carolina – Columbia man, identified by the local autroties as Johnnie Quawnetel Mack, 34, is being held by Lexington County deputies on suspicions of murdering a man in a shooting on Tuesday night. Mack is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to arrest warrants.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the person who died as 53-year-old John Darrick Rumph. Rumph was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene, which was on Gaston’s 2400 block of Glenn Road. According to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, Mack and Rumph had a previous altercation that same evening before the shooting.

“Based on interviews with witnesses, the shooting stems from an incident between Mack and Rumph earlier that evening,” Koon said. “Mack returned to the home on Glenn Road where he fired multiple shots at Rumph.”

Sheriff Koon said Rumph took a single upper body shot. Mack turned himself in to the law enforcement on Thursday night and, as per a magistrate judge’s ruling on Friday, is being held without bond at the Lexington County Detention Center.
