Florence bomb threat investigation leads deputies to a second arrest this week

Florence, South Carolina – Earlier this week, a second woman was taken into custody related to a bomb threat at a Florence educational institution. The incident unfolded on Monday when sheriff’s deputies were called to 1428 Floyd Circle following reports of a bomb threat. According to a press release by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and coverage by the Florence News Journal, the first suspect was detained following the alert. The details of the initial report can be found here.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies utilized a bomb-sniffing dog, which confirmed that the threat was not genuine. Later that day, the authorities arrested Demarie Jessalyn Nichole Spontis, accusing her of orchestrating the bomb threat alongside another individual.

By Wednesday, the deputies had also apprehended Rachael Cierra Levy, a 25-year-old resident of Florence, charging her similarly with making a bomb threat. Currently, Levy is being held at the Florence County Detention Center with her bail set at $10,000.00 on a surety bond, Florence County Sheriff’s office confirmed in a follow-up press release.

Meanwhile, Spontis, who was also held on a $10,000.00 surety bond, was released on Tuesday.
