Florence, South Carolina – The City of Florence Resilience & Sustainability Advisory Committee has announced an Earth Day cleanup event to be held on Monday, April 22nd. The event will begin at 9:00 AM at Naturally Outdoors, which is located at 2519 W Palmetto St, Florence, SC. Its goal is to encourage people to get involved in their communities and care for the environment.
This initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Resilience and Sustainability Advisory Committee, the Community Development Committee, and the City Manager. These groups work collectively to advise the City Council on programs such as the “Sustainability and Climate Action Plan,” positioning Florence as a forefront city in sustainability practices.
For this year’s cleanup, the group is working with Keep Florence Beautiful, an organization that strives to engage individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community. Keep Florence Beautiful will give all attendees the safety gear they need, like gloves and vests. The community is encouraged to come out in force and support the endeavor.
The cleanup will focus on the area stretching from the Rail Trail to the bridge on West Palmetto Street. Participants will gather to remove trash and debris along the banks of Jeffries Creek, enhancing the natural beauty and ecological health of the area. The event is set to last from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, but it could end sooner if goals are met early.

Volunteers are advised to wear sturdy footwear suitable for wet conditions, as the cleanup activities may take them close to water.
Mindy Taylor, Chair of the City of Florence Resilience and Sustainability Advisory Committee, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Earth Day is a great opportunity to celebrate natural places of beauty like Jeffries Creek in our great city and work alongside our citizens to ensure they can be enjoyed for generations to come.”

Residents interested in participating are reminded that registration begins at 9:00 AM at Naturally Outdoors on the day of the event. Participants will need to sign a release form as required by Keep Florence Beautiful.
