Bridges resignation is children’s loss

on Tuesday, 14 November 2017. Posted in Letters to the Editor, Opinions

District One Superintendent Randy Bridges’ leadership will be sadly missed by the children in our school district. Over the past years Dr. Bridges has offered a vision and a strategic plan that was creating a wonderful momentum of excitement in learning among the children, enthusiasm among their teachers, and an increase in test scores.

With the recent loss of Glenn Odom, a Board member whose body of work for over 20 years exhibited fairness and advocacy for all the students of the district, and now with the sudden resignation of Dr. Bridges, this leaves a large void to fill in District One. If the current school board expects a superintendent with the abilities of Dr. Bridges to apply for this job, they may have to exhibit a much more cooperative and positive demeanor. What superintendent in his right mind would want to come to District One and start out having to deal with such a divisive governing body?

The voters in a couple of districts may need to replace some single-agenda issue board members with citizens who are truly concerned about unity and the education of children in the entire district.

We wish Dr. Randy Bridges God-speed and the Board good luck in the future.
