Letter to the Editor

on Tuesday, 29 May 2018. Posted in Letters to the Editor, Opinions

Dear Editor:

It is time for immediate action to protect our children and teachers. All the arguing is going nowhere. The solutions to date rely on more debate, congressional action, more studies and more politics. Let Florence set the standard; I recommend that we, before summer’s end, authorize and build a chain-link fence around all our schools with one entrance with security guards and metal detectors. Razor wire just like a jail, but to keep people out not in. Chained gates can be put at necessary spots for egress for sports, evacuation and school functions.

We can do something NOW and let the politicians continue to haggle over people’s rights. We could also solicit local groups like the American Legion, VFW, Marine Corps League and others to provide perimeter monitors.

WE can take action, if we have the courage to lead. Let’s roll.

Sincerely,

Ken Curran
