If you wanted to move to a large city, which one would you pick? According to a recent survey, Austin, Texas, is the best urban city to live in. Number two is Raleigh, N.C. . WalletHub conducted an in-depth analysis of 2015’s Best and Worst Large Cities to Live in. The study compared the attractiveness of the largest U.S. cities in terms of livability, the quality of their health and education systems, economic growth and tax rates.
The top ten best large cities to live in included Colorado Springs, CO, San Jose, CA, Seattle, WA, San Diego, CA, Denver, CO, San Francisco, CA, Lexington, KY, followed by Virginia Beach, VA in the number 10 slot. The worst large city to live in was Detroit, MI, followed by Memphis, TN, Philadelphia, PA, Cleveland, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Wichita, KS, St. Louis, MO, Milwaukee, WI, Tulsa, OK and Fresno, CA. The best job market was Seattle, Dallas and San Francisco, and the worst was Tucson, AZ, Fresno and Detroit. Some of the key stats from this survey are: Detroit’s violent crime rate is 13 times as high as Virginia Beach, Va.’s.
The household income adjusted by the cost of living in Virginia Beach, Va., is three times higher than in Cleveland. The percentage of the population smoking daily in Louisville, Ky., is four times higher than in San Jose, Calif. San Diego’s school system quality score is twice as high as Philadelphia’s.
The percentage of adults with a BMI of 30 or higher in Memphis, Tenn., is two times higher than in San Jose, Calif. The percentage of adults eating fruits or vegetables (five or more servings per day) in San Francisco is two times higher than in Tulsa, Okla.
