Thirteen Florence Track Club members qualify for the national competition

HOSCHTON, GA – On July 9-12, the USATF Jr. Olympic Regional Championships saw 70 athletes from the Florence Track Club, a club sponsored by the City of Florence Parks and Recreation, take on the competition. Kaleb Burroughs, a gold medal winner in all three of his state events, qualified in all three of his events for the nationals. Savannah Jordan, another newcomer to the Florence Track Club, qualified in both javelin and high jump. 

In addition, two athletes – Caelin Sloan (race walking), and Ja’Marcus Williams (long jump), came away regional champions. While the top eight receive medals, only the top five in the regional competition make it to nationals, and in all, 13 Florence Track Club members qualified for nationals. 

Those who qualified for nationals include the following: In 1st place: Caelin Sloan (9-10 female) in the 1500m Race Walk with a time of 10:39.71 and Ja’Marcus Williams (6-8 male) in the long jump, with a jump of 3.55m; in 2nd place: Kaleb Burroughs (6-8 male) in the Javelin with a throw of 18.71m; in 3rd place: Thandi Stewart (11-12 female) with a discus throw of 18.77m, Arthur Parham (9-10 male) with a javelin throw of 32.98m, Kaleb Burroughs (6-8 male) with a 1500m run of 5:58.74 and Savannah Jordan (11-12 female) with a high jump of 1.40m; in 4th place: Kaleb Burroughs (6-8 male) with a 800m run of 2:52.70, and Lyera Garguilo (11-12 female) with a long jump of 4.33m; and in 5th place: Sarah Spence (15-16 female) in the 2000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:02.21, Winston Stewart (13-14 male) with a javelin throw of 36.24m, Jack Banner (11-12 male) with a 3000m run of 11:47.11, Jacob Gard (9-10 male) with a high jump of 1.0m, Antonio Dinkins (15-16 male) with a high jump of 1.65m, Savannah Jordan (11-12 female) with a javelin throw of 21.9m, and Luke Baker (13-14 male) with a pole vault of 2.35m. 

Others who received medals included those in sixth place: Anthony SantiAnna (13-14 male) in javelin with a throw of 33.24m, Jazmyne Lyde (11-12 female) with a discus throw of 14.37m, Kameron Jones (9-10 male) with a high jump of 1.00m, Salvage Ellis (17-18 male) with a high jump of 1.90m, Caleb Hickmon (9-10 male) with a javelin throw of 30.82m, and Thandi Stewart (11-12 female) with a shot put throw of 8.10m; those in 7th place: Zane Morris (11-12 male) with a javelin throw of 26.76m, Brittany Sloan (6-8 female) with a javelin throw of 10.57m, Morgan Banner (9-10 female) with a javelin throw of 15.20m, Jazmyne Lyde (11-12 female) with a javelin throw of 19.81m, the team of Kameron Jones, Landon Drinkard, Omar Stewart and Sam Jordan (9-10 male) with a 4x100 time of 1:07.69, Luke Baker (13-14 male) with a triple jump of 9.18m, and Winston Stewart (13-14 male) with a discus throw of 32.02m; and in 8th place: Xzavier Davis (6-8 male) with a long jump of 2.93m, Riana Patel (11-12 female) with a discus throw of 11.21m, Kamryn Davis (9-10 female) with a javelin throw of 14.64m, Madison Hindman (11-12 female) with a javelin throw of 19.67m, Julian Duncan (9-10 male) with a 1500m run of 5:34.69, Darrian Cole (15-16 female) with a 1500m run of 5:32.76, Cassie Hitch (9-10 female), with a high jump of 1.00m, and Kamille Cunningham (9-10 female) with a high jump of 1.00m.

While the Regional championships were truly challenging, the nationals will be a whole new level of competition! Those who have accepted this challenge will be heading down to Jacksonville, FL the week of July 27, with the hopes and best wishes of all the members of the Florence Track Club.
