HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: South Florence rolls in home opener
It was an electrifying night as South Florence unveiled its new stadium on Friday. The Bruins were at full power against Bluffton, throttling the visitors by a score of 49-7 in front of a loud and boisterous crowd.
Quarterback LaNorris Sellers led the way, throwing for 168 yards on 11 of 18 attempts and adding 55 yards on the ground. The game was never in doubt as South Florence dominated the first half and led 28-0 at halftime.
Running back Tyae McWhite had 109 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Bruin rushing attack. South Florence (1-0) will play at Mannng on Friday.
West Florence 42 Lexington 33
With running back Terry McKithen leading the way, West Florence struck early and often on its way to a decisive 42-33 season-opening victory over Lexington Friday.
McKithan scored four touchdowns on the night, three of then in the first half as the Knights bolted to a 35-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Lexington rallied to open the second half, scoring 13 unanswered points to get within two, 35-33.
West Florence scored twice in the final quarter to seal the victory.
West Florence (1-0) will play at home Friday against Conway.
Florence Christian 41, Northwoods Academy 0
Florence Christian steamrolled Northwoods Academy Friday, posting a 41-0 shutout in its season opener.
Running back Ethan Kelly led the Eagles with 162 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Juels Huntley added 69 yards and two touchdowns.
Florence Christian (1-0) will host Dillon Christian at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Hilton Head Christian 54, The King’s Academy 23
King’s Academy fell to Hilton Head Christian 54-23 in its season opener on Friday. Quarterback Garrison Fields rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Lions on offense.
Kings Academy (0-1) will travel to Thomas Sumter on Friday.
Trinity Collegiate 28, Charlotte County Day 10
It wasn’t easy, but Trinity Collegiate overcame an early 10-point deficit and used a second half surge to come away with a 28-10 win over Charlotte Country Day in its season opener on Friday .
After falling behind 10-0, the Titans narrowed the lead to 10-8 at halftime with a touchdown and two-point conversion.
Trinity’s defense stepped up in the second half and kept Charlotte County Day from scoring. Three touchdowns by the Titans put the game out of reach.
The Titans (1-0) will play at Wilson Hall on Friday.
