S.C. Dance Theatre to hold auditions May 10

    The South Carolina Dance Theatre will hold auditions for the 2022-23 dance season on Tuesday, May 10.

        Auditions are open to the public and will be held at the company’s studio at 1810-B Second Loop Rd. Dancers should wear appropriate dance attire for auditions and complete an application. A non-refundable audition fee of $15 is required and should be submitted with the application at audition.

   Company levels are SCDT-1, SCDT-2, SCDT-3, and SCDT-4.

The specific times for auditions are as follows: •

      Ages 6 to 11 – 5 to 5:45 p.m.;

      • Ages 12 and up - 6 to 6:45 p.m.

Ages are listed for audition purposes only and placement is based upon dance capabilities and experience.

      The SCDT encourages and nurtures the artistic growth of dance as a performing art. Known for its annual production of “Nutcracker,” the company has also presented notable ballets such as “Sleeping Beauty” and “Cinderella.”

    The company’s artistic director is Susan Rowe, a graduate of the North Carolina School of Arts. She has a bachelor’s degree in dance. A former ballet mistress of the Les Ballets de Monte Carlo in the principality of Monaco as well as Ballet du Nord in Roubaix, France, she was also a principal dancer with the Ballet du Nord and the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle, Wash. Her dance experience also includes performance with the Frankfurt Ballet in Germany, the Feld Ballet in New York, the N.C. Dance Theatre in Winston-Salem, and the Agnes DeMille Heritage Dance Theatre.

      Rowe’s extensive training includes study with the American Ballet Theatre, the School of American Ballet, the Princess Grace Academy of Dance, and Franchetti Studios in Paris, France. She also teaches dance at Trinity Collegiate School. She is married to Dr. Terry Roberts, Director of the Florence Symphony Orchestra.
