Public schools hosting events to showcase their programs
For the next two months, schools in Florence One are putting out the welcome mats for all local citizens to see what local public schools have to offer. The 10th Annual Showcase of Schools will be held in February and March, and each school in Florence One will put on programs and displays which range from guided tours of Montessori education to an overview of student demonstrations of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) programs.
School officials say that the showcases are varied and have provided the opportunity for schools to be creative in planning their events. For example, Greenwood Elementary will host its showcase at the Florence Museum on Feb. 26 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. to kick off Read Across America Week. “This showcase represents Greenwood not as a building, but also as a community of people coming together for a night of family, fun, and fellowship,” said Dr. Susan Collins, principal at Greenwood Elementary.
Southside Middle will showcase its STEM programs as well as its Fine Arts Academy offerings. Delmae Elementary has invited the community to experience programs at Delmae for the entire month of February. Wilson High will highlight its Early College Program as well as other unique features of the school.
All parents and community members are invited to attend the Showcase of Schools. See the complete showcase schedule on the Florence One website <http://fsd1.org> or call any school in Florence One for details about its showcase.
