The Florence One Schools Board of Trustees unanimously approved construction of a new North Vista Elementary School at its regular monthly meeting on Sept. 8.

Jumper Carter Sease Architects of West Columbia will design the school and Thompson-Turner Construction will serve as the construction management firm. It is hoped the new school will be ready for the 2023-24 school year.

During the meeting, F1S Superintendent Richard O’Malley stated that demolition of the old Wilson High School, which will serve as the location for the new North Vista, should be completed soon. Plans call for the current North Vista to be converted to a middle school.

The total for the new school is estimated at about $30.3 million. The 90,000 square-foot building will be two stories.
