Piano students of Madeline Sawyer present spring recital

Students of Madeline M. Sawyer were presented in a Spring Recital on Tuesday, May 19, at the William G. Sawyer home. At the conclusion of the recital, students were recognized for their year’s work with awards of diplomas, pins, certificates and trophies. Certificates were presented to the following students who entered the Florence Independent Music Teachers Association Piano Festival held in March at Central United Methodist Church:

Creighton Armstrong, Benjamin Bonds, Emily Bonds, Elizabeth Intemann, Erin Intemann, Caleb King, Amelia Naqvi, Harris Naqvi, Sarah Park, Cate Phipps, Forrest Phipps, William Phipps, Helen Player, Ruth Player, Mary Catherine Rawlinson, Emma Rivers, Elizabeth Sawyer, and Ford Scott. Elizabeth Intemann, Erin Intemann, and Emma Rivers were recognized for Honorable Mention in their divisions. Sarah Park and Ruth Player were recognized as Division Winners.

The Gold Cup award was presented to Creighton Armstrong, Caleb King, William Phipps, Ruth Player, Emma Rivers, and Benjamin Bonds for accumulating points during multiple years of participation in the Florence Independent Music Teachers Association Piano Festival. Students were recognized for participation in the South Carolina Independent Schools Association Music Festival held in Columbia in March. Silver medal winners were Cate Phipps and Ruth Player. Gold medal winner was Helen Player.

In early May, students participated in the National Guild Auditions held at The Music Box Studio in Florence. Caleb King received a Local diploma and pin. Emily Bonds and Emma Rivers received District diplomas and pins. National diplomas and pins were presented to Creighton Armstrong, Benjamin Bonds, Elizabeth Intemann, Erin Intemann, Charlie McKay, Amelia Naqvi, Harris Naqvi, Sarah Park, Cate Phipps, Forrest Phipps, Helen Player, Ruth Player, Mary Catherine Rawlinson, Elizabeth Sawyer, and Ford Scott.

The Five-Year Pin awards were presented to Benjamin Bonds, Elizabeth Intemann, Sarah Park, Helen Player, and Ruth Player for playing a National program in the National Guild Auditions for five years or more. Further recognition went to Benjamin Bonds for playing a National program for 10 years. Students recognized for receiving a Superior rating in the Florence Piano Festival, National Guild Auditions, and/or the South Carolina Independent Schools Association Music Festival were:

Creighton Armstrong, Benjamin Bonds, Emily Bonds, Elizabeth Intemann, Caleb King, Charlie McKay, Amelia Naqvi, Sarah Park, Forrest Phipps, Helen Player, Ruth Player, Mary Catherine Rawlinson, Emma Rivers, Elizabeth Sawyer, and Ford Scott. The Participation Award for accumulation of points earned by participation in piano events outside of the studio throughout the year went to Benjamin Bonds, Ruth Player, Sarah Park, and Emma Rivers.

The High Point Participation Award went to Helen Player. Creighton Armstrong was recognized as the studio’s graduating high school senior. Creighton is graduating from Wilson High School, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Armstrong. The recital was followed by a reception in the Sawyer home.
