Pepsi Carolina Classic pairings told

Pairings for the 30th Annual Pepsi Carolina Classic were announced on Dec. 2 at a press conference at the Florence Boys & Girls Club. Presented by local McDonald’s owners, the Pepsi Carolina Classic begins Monday, Dec. 28, and runs through Dec. 31 and is held in the West Florence High School gymnasium.

Two new high school teams have joined the tournament roster this year. Trinity-Byrnes, coached by Larry Cullinane; and North Augusta, coached by Tony Harrell will compete in the Classic for the first time. The pairings include 12 teams.

The schedule is as follows: Dec. 28 Cheraw vs. Florence Christian, 2:15 p.m. Hannah-Pamplico vs. Trinity-Byrnes, 4 p.m. Hartsville vs. Johnsonville, 5:45 p.m. Lake City vs. Hemingway, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 29 Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2 - 11:15 a.m. Loser Game 3 vs. Loser Game 4 - 1 p.m.

South Florence vs. winner game 3, 2:45 p.m. Crestwood vs. winner game 2, 4:30 p.m. North Augusta vs winner game 4, 6:15 p.m. West Florence vs. winner game 1; 8 p.m. Dec. 30 Loser game 5 vs. loser game 6; 12:30 p.m. Loser game 7 vs. loser game 8, 2:15 p.m.

Loser game 9 vs. loser game 10, 4 p.m. Winner game 7 vs. winner game 8, 2:15 p.m. Winner game 9 vs. winner game 10, 4 p.m. Winner game 7 vs. winner game 8, 5:45 p.m. Winner game 9, vs winner game 10, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 31 Loser game 12 vs. loser game 13, 11:15 p.m. Winner game 5 vs. loser game 8, 2:15 p.m.

Winner game 14 vs. winner game 15, (Championship). Note: First team listed in home team. Tournament champions for 2014 were the West Florence Knights.

Jalen Cameron was MVP. 2013 Champions were the South Florence Bruins and Deadrick Williams was MVP. 2012 champions were the Hartsville Red Foxes and Jaylen Shaw was MVP. This annual event is a fund raiser for the Boys & Girls Club of the Pee Dee. The club serves 2,700 area kids a year.
