Pecan Festival to take place on Saturday
The annual South Carolina Pecan Festival will take place in downtown Florence on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Admission is free. The festival features a Kids Fun Zone, seven stages of entertainment, amusement rides, tractor hay rides, chalk competition, corn hole tournament, a classic car show, an antique tractor show, cooking demonstrations, Pecan Cook-off, Run Like a Nut and Bike Like a Nut and more.
Expect a wide variety of food and craft vendors, as well. Headlining this year’s festival will be Chuck Negron, formerly of the Three Dog Night. He will perform at 5:30 p.m. at the Five Star Stage Main Stage located at Baroody and Irby Streets. The world was introduced to Chuck Negron and Three Dog Night in 1969 by the band’s first million seller “One.”
Driven by Negron’s solo lead vocals on four million selling singles, three #1 records, (including “Joy To The World” which topped the charts for six weeks) five top-five hits and seven top-40 hits, Negron put and kept Three Dog Night on the charts for six years. His soaring, soulful, four octave range and unique vocal styling became a part of the American landscape. In more recent years Chuck has released four solo albums and a best-selling autobiography, “Three Dog Nightmare”.
He has also been touring with his own band as well as spending the last two summers on the road with the highly successful Happy Together Tour. Also performing on the Five Star Stage are local performers and dancers, starting with Saviah Miller singing the national anthem at 10:10 a.m. The Tams will perform at 3 p.m.
The Crown Beverage Stage, at Irby and Palmetto, will feature 42 Tribute at 11 a.m., Pantasia at 12:30 p.m., Dwayne Dopsie and Zydego Hellraisers at 2:30 p.m., followed by 42 Tribute again at 4 p.m. The Evening Shade Stage at Dargan and Evans offers blues bands with Shrimp City Slim at 11:30 a.m., The Blues Buckets at 1:30 p.m., Ramblin Don Scott at 2:30 p.m. and Freddie Vanderford at 3 p.m.
First Reliance Stage, Dargan and Palmetto, opens at 10:30 a.m. with A Deeper Shade of Blue, the Josh Brannon Band at noon and 2:30 p.m. and Morgan’s Road at 4:30 p.m. The Florence MRI Stage, Cheves and Coit, begins with Sandy Banks at 11 a.m., Kept at noon, Team Freedom at 1 p.m., Mt. Zion AME Mighty Male Chorus at 2:30 p.m. and the Sensational Brown Brothers at 4:30 p.m.
The Jebaily Law Firm Stage will feature a Cheerleading Expo from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., followed by Maurice Coleman Rap Review. At 12:45 p.m. the North Vista Step Team will perform; at 1 p.m. Soda City Cirque Variety Show takes the stage, followed by S.C. Interactive Children’s Activities at 1:30 p.m.
Impact Theater will present show tunes from 2 until 2:15 p.m. Jess Willis Story Teller performs at 2:15 p.m., followed by Soda City Cirque Variety Show at 2:30. Unique Glamour Girlz take the stage at 3 p.m. followed by S.C. Interactive Children’s Activities at 3:15 p.m. Then its Dancing in the Street from 3:30 to 4 p.m. followed by NASA Telescope and ScienceSouth.
The Blue Choice Kids Fun Zone is located on the west side of the 100 block of N. Irby Street. A bike giveaway will take place with registration at noon to 2 p.m., drawing at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. A Health Village will be set up from 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Florence Toyota Arts on Evans Stage, 100 block of W. Evans, features sidewalk chalk competition, live artists, live dance troops, and a diverse slate of dancers – Flamenco, Chinese, Lumbee Indians, African, Irish, Hip Hop and Contemporary.
Artists will include painters, sculptors, wood crafters and stone works. Stage DJ will be Voodoo Child. The McLeod Health Flavors of Florence will be offered from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. with cooking demonstrations at Cheves and Dargan Streets. The Wholly Smokin Pecan Festival Cookoff takes place at 10:30 a.m. at Cheves and Dargan.
The CVB-ACO Pecan Festival Corn Hole Tournament will by held on the lawn of the Performing Arts Center from 10:30 until 5:30 p.m. The Sexton Dental Amusement Rides will be offered in the Florence County Complex parking lot all day. The S.C. Education Lottery and the Fitness Forum hosts Run Like a Nut, beginning at 8 a.m. at 120 East Elm St.
Aiken & Company and Fitness Forum will host Bike Like A Nut, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at 120 East Elm St. Free park and ride shuttle services will be provided all day by PDRTA buses, beginning at 10:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. from the following four parking sites: Hallmark Plaza, 953 S. Irby Street, Florence Regional Airport, 2100 Terminal Drive, Old Winn Dixie, 124 S. Cashua and Florence Mall, 1945 W. Palmetto.
