Masterworks Choir concert in memory of late founder
The Masterworks Choir & Orchestra will present “In Memoriam: A Concert in Memory of William B. Mills,” on Sunday, May 15 at the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center. The program is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
The choir and orchestra, conducted by Dr. Will Carswell and accompanied by pianist Beverly Hazelwood, will perform “A German Requiem,” by Johannes Brahms
The concert will be performed in memory of Bill Mills, founder of Masterworks and director of the choir for 33 years before his death in 2012.
Brahm’s requiem was one of Mills’ most loved large-scale works. He performed the piece once each decade during the 33 years he served as director.
Guest soloists for this performance are soprano Dr. Tina Stallard, professor of Voice and Associate Dean of the School of Music at the University of South Carolina, and baritone Alexander Elliott, who, in the past two seasons has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Opera Omaha, San Diego Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, Des Moines Metro Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and the Houston Grand Opera. Alex is a native of Florence.
