Mackinson picked for Google Cloud Academic All-District Baseball Team
Francis Marion University senior shortstop CJ Mackinson has been selected to the prestigious 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District Baseball Team for District III.
Selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), the All-District Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions: NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with the Academic All-America honorees to be announced in June.
A native of Sykesville, Md., Mackinson owns a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a management major.
On the field this season, he started all 49 contests and batted .262 with seven doubles, three home runs, and 27 runs batted in. He registered 15 multi-hit games and six multi-RBI games. He recorded a team-best equaling 17-game streak of safely reaching base in 2019, ranks seventh in the PBC with 136 fielding assists, and took part in turning 34 double plays – fourth-best in the conference.
He was named to the PBC Baseball All-Academic Team for 2019.
At this spring’s FMU Academic Awards Day ceremony, Mackinson received the Management Award (from the School of Business). He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society and Chi Alpha Sigma national college athlete honor society. He has been named to the PBC Presidential and FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic honor roll on every possible occasion, and served on the University’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this past year.
As a junior in 2018, he was a second-team All-Conference selection and earned Patriot Team MVP honors.
He played two seasons at Frederick Community College before transferring to FMU. He was a first-team All-County and a second-team All-Metro selection at Century High School.
Francis Marion (28-21) finished tied for sixth during the Peach Belt Conference regular season and posted a 10-win improvement over the 2018 campaign.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs.
