Laney DuBose joins dad’s company as fourth generation

on Tuesday, 30 June 2015. Posted in Good life, News, Local News

Laney DuBose has joined the staff of her family’s insurance business representing the fourth generation of DuBoses. DuBose Insurance Agency was established by her great grandfather, Carroll DuBose in the 1940s. His son, Charles Brooks DuBose, joined the company in 1958. Charles’s son, Charles Brooks “Bubba” DuBose Jr., joined the company in 1983. Laney’s great uncle, Sam Breeden, joined the company in 1964. Completing the staff is Marva Williams who has been with the company for 42 years and Crystal Capell for 17 years.

Laney spent a lot of time at the agency growing up, but was not interested in a career in insurance. She obtained an associate degree in marketing and management from Florence-Darlington Technical College and worked for a while in Greenville, S.C., and then Raleigh, N.C., before deciding to come back home last November and join the family business. “This is quite a privilege and my dad is the best teacher I could have,” she said. “Since I grew up around here, it feels like home,” she added.

Her dad, Bubba, says the hardest part is the “teaching” part. This is the kind of job you learn from experience,” he commented. Laney is using her marketing skills at the agency and learning the insurance business while she studies to prepare for licensing. “Right now Laney is taking one step at a time learning the ins and outs on how to run the office,” her dad said. “It been fun working with my dad. He’s my best friend. We think a lot alike,” she commented.

Laney admits she sometimes feels a little intimidated because ultimately she will one day take over the family business. But that day is far away, she stressed. C.B. DuBose Insurance Agency Inc., aka, DuBose Senior Marketing, has evolved primarily into a senior medicare supplement and final expense specialist, providing coverage for seniors 65 and up throughout the Southeastern region of the U.S. The primary carrier is Aetna Senior Products of Franklin, Tenn., along with other top-rated carriers.

The agency offers medicare supplements, health and life primarily for seniors, including final expense plans, nursing facility care plans, homecare plans, hospital indemnity plans, and a cancer, heart attack and stroke plan. They continue to provide health insurance plans as well. “We offer our customers ways to save money while getting quality insurance,” commented Laney. The agency is located at 1205 W. Evans St. and may be reached at 1-800-868-8102.
