Johnson earns spot on Softball All-Region Team

Francis Marion University senior shortstop Taylor Johnson has been named to the 2019 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Softball All-Southeast Region Team. The San Diego native was a second-team selection.

Johnson batted a team-best .386, while scoring a team-high 49 runs in only 43 games. She hit 10 home runs and drove in 34 runs, while registering 11 doubles and five stolen bases. She posted a .485 on-base percentage and a .693 slugging percentage that combined for an OPS of 1.178.

Johnson ranks among the top-5 in the Peach Belt Conference in runs, homers, total bases, batting, slugging, and on-base percentage, while possessing one of the leagues’ strongest arms. She registered a 15-game hitting streak during the season, hit safely in 33 of 43 games, reached base safely in 39 contests, and recorded 18 multi-hit games.

Earlier this month, Johnson earned first-team All-Peach Belt Conference recognition. She was also honored as the Patriot Team MVP and won the 2019 Frankie Award for Female Breakout Performance at Francis Marion’s 49th-Annual Athletic Gala. She earned her undergraduate degree in May 2018 and is currently working on a second degree. She is a two-time PBC All-Academic selection and was named an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete in 2017.

Johnson helped lead Francis Marion to a 31-19 record and a sixth-place finish during the PBC regular season. The win total represented a 12-game improvement over the 2018 campaign.

She finished her career with a .344 average in 191 games with 19 homers and 102 RBIs. She owns the school record for career walks (85) and shares the all-time mark for doubles (47).

Johnson is a product of La Jolla Country Day School.

The PBC had 14 honorees on the two All-Region squads, while the South Atlantic Conference had 11 and the Conference Carolinas three. The mission of the CCA is to encourage and promote Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education.

The voting, nomination and calculations are all conducted by members of D2SIDA, NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association. The online nomination and voting processes are powered by PrestoSports.
