Governor’s School students from Florence to participate at statewide basketball camp
Two members of the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) boys basketball team were invited to participate in the 2015 South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association (SCBCA) Elite Basketball Camp. On Oct. 3, Collin Edwards and Quann Moses, GSSM class of 2016, will participate in the 2015 Elite Basketball Camp which invites the top basketball players from around South Carolina, regardless of classification, to come together at Ridge View High School in Columbia.
Collin Edwards, son of Gerard and Zenobia Edwards of Florence, and Quann Moses, son of Anjennette Moses of Florence, are both starting their senior year at GSSM. “I believe that I am truly blessed to receive this amazing opportunity,” Moses said. “I never saw myself getting invited to such a camp, but I will do my best to enthusiastically support and take full advantage of it.” The camp will give attendees an opportunity to refine their already developing basketball skills through a series of games and drills, but will also stress the importance of academics for young athletes.
“Collin and Quann are phenomenal athletes but, most importantly, phenomenal people,” said Justin Johnson, GSSM’s Assistant Athletic Director and boys basketball head coach. “They are great representations of our program and we are proud to see their efforts acknowledged by the coaches around this great state. GSSM produces high performing students, people and athletes. Who would have thought we would say that?"
Both students have been playing basketball since they were young and have further developed their skills through GSSM’s ever-growing athletic program. “I have been blessed to be part of building an outstanding program,” Edwards said. “Coach Johnson has made me step out of my comfort zone and excel at every position on the court.”
