Former MLB star Strawberry to speak at Evening of Hope
Former Major League All-Star Darryl Strawberry will serve as the keynote speaker at this year’s Evening of Hope fundraiser sponsored by the House of Hope of the Pee Dee.
The event is scheduled to take place on March 7 at the Florence Center.
Strawberry played in the Majors for 17 seasons. He was named National League Rookie of the Year while playing for the Mets in 1983. During his seven years in New York, he helped lead the Mets to the World Series title in 1986 and made the All-Star team every season.
Strawberry played with Los Angeles and San Francisco Giants before returning to New York to play for the Yankees in 1996.
The eight-time All-Star battled addictions and legal problems throughout the 1990s and in the early 2000s. He has since become a born-again Christian.
Contemporary Christian singer/ songwriter Lydia Laird will provide music at the event.
