on Monday, 10 January 2022. Posted in Local News

The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s tennis teams have been picked to finish fifth and sixth respectively in the 2022 Conference Carolinas preseason coaches’ polls. Under the guidance of first-year head coach Jay Evans, this will be the Patriots’ inaugural year in the conference.

The Francis Marion men return four lettermen from last season. The Patriots received 60 points in the preseason poll to place behind only Belmont Abbey College (90), Barton College and University of Mount Olive (both at 87), and Emmanuel College (80).

The FMU women return three letterwinners from last year. The Patriots tallied 68 points in the preseason poll, finishing behind Erskine College (115), Mount Olive (108), Emmanuel (94), Belmont Abbey (93), and Barton (81).

Francis Marion will open its 2022 seasons on Feb. 4-6 when the Patriots compete in the Raines Company/City of Florence Invitational Tournament to be held at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.

The on-campus home opener for Francis Marion will be Sunday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. against Lenoir-Rhyne University. The Conference Carolinas championships are set for April 29-May 1 at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter.
