Florence RedWolves kick off season

On June 5th, the Florence RedWolves traveled to Lexington to take on the Lexington County Blowfish. The RedWolves beat the Blowfish by a score of 12-4.

The RedWolves got off to a quick start in the top of 1st scoring 5 runs and never looked back. Patrick Causa led the RedWolves offense at the plate going 4 for 5 driving in 1 run and scoring 3 times himself. Ben Peden went 2 for 5 at the plate driving in 5 runs.

The RedWolves were also dominant in the mound as well only allowing 4runs. Michael Kuypers got the start and went 6 innings spreading out 11 hits, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Joshua Plummer would come in and finish the game for the RedWolves giving up 5 hits and a walk but struck out 6 Blowfish. 

They came back home on the 6th to face the Savannah Bananas and the Bananas came out with a 13-2 win. Jordan Merritt was recorded with the win as he went 5 innings giving up 3 hits and a walk while striking out 6 RedWolves batters. Dylan Spence was tabbed with the loss for the RedWolves.

The RedWolves then traveled down I-95 to face the same Bananas on June 8th. Again the RedWolves would be defeated but this time the final was 7-5. Brayden Beldon would be tagged with the win as he would relieve the starter, Tanner Routh after 3 innings of work. Beldon would give up 4 hits, 3 runs with 1 being an earned run and 2 unearned runs and 1 walk while striking out 7 RedWolves batters. Amos Willingham would be tagged with the loss for the RedWolves.

The Bananas would get on the board first scoring 3 runs in the top of the first but the RedWolves would answer by scoring 3 more in the bottom of the first. They would then take the lead in the bottom of the 5th by scoring 2 more runs.

The Bananas would answer back by scoring two themselves in the top of the 6th and would add two insurance runs in the top of the 7th and 9th. The Bananas would bring in Garrett Delano to close out the game in the 9th and he was credited with the save.

The RedWolves will be back in action this week at home at Sparrow Stadium on Francis Marion’s University campus on Thursday the 14th and take on the Macon Bacon at 7 p.m.
