Florence National Cemetery to begin beautification project
The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to begin a beautification project at Florence National Cemetery starting in late July or early August. The project will continue for approximately eight months depending upon weather conditions and other variables. The project will consist of removing and replacing the existing grass in sections 3, 8, 12, 13 and 14. “We strive to honor our veterans with a final resting place in a national shrine. It is a sacred trust that binds us to continually improve the appearance of the cemetery grounds”, said cemetery director Carolyn Howard.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience during this time.” During the project, visitation to gravesites will continue to be accessible. However, visitors are asked to take precautions and to be aware of any posted signs in the affected areas. Interment operations will continue, although committal services and parking may be impacted. In addition, the appearance of the turf in certain areas will be temporarily affected during the project.
