A video series produced by the Florence-based Driving Force Institute for the American Battlefield Trust was awarded a Telly Award during the 43rd annual Telly Honors celebration.

The Telly Awards honor excellence in video and television across all screens and is judged by leaders from video platforms, television, streaming networks and production companies, including Adobe, Netflix, Dow Jones, Duplass Brothers Productions, Complex Networks, Jennifer Garner, A&E Networks, Hearst Media, Nickelodeon, ESPN Films, RYOT, Partizan, and Vimeo.

DFI was recognized for its work on the American Battlefield Trust’s How We Became America: The UNTOLD History, a 22-part series of short-form videos focused on the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. The ABT series is a part of the Driving Force Institute’s Untold History Initiative.

Based in Florence, the Driving Force Institute is a non-profit company committed to improving the teaching and learning of American history. Its video content is currently used by teachers and students in all 50 states, as well as by learners around the globe. Last year, DFI’s work was recognized by the American Association of School Librarians as a “Top Digital Tool for Teaching and Learning.”

DFI partners with a wide range of noted organizations in addition to American Battlefield Trust, including N.Y. Historical Society, iCivics, the White House Historical Association, the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, and DoGoodery.

“Our series with the American Battlefield Trust represents an important segment of our nation’s history that must be taught and learned by all who care about this nation,” said DFI CEO Patrick Riccards. “The Driving Force Institute is proud to partner with the Trust to help bring that story to students across the country as part of the Untold History series.”

“How We Became America” is produced and distributed by the Driving Force Institute and Makematic. “How We Became America” is filled with “eye-catching animation based on iconic period images, plus a slightly irreverent attitude designed to show that history is dynamic.”
