DAR Chapter invites community to veterans event
The Samuel Bacot Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, held its October meeting at the Florence Country Club. The members present were pleased to welcome Mr. Mac Burdette as our speaker. Mr. Burdette is the Executive Director of Patriots Point Development Authority and is responsible for the operation and management of the Patriot Point Naval & Maritime Museum. Mr. Burdette was instrumental in assisting Colonel Barry Wingard (R) of Florence to procure the Merchant Marine Anchor and the US Coast Guard Anchor and Bell, which the Samuel Bacot Chapter, DAR, sponsored, for our Florence Veterans Park.
Patriots Point, on the Charleston Harbor in Mt Pleasant, is home of Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum and a fleet of National Historic Landmark ships, and the only Vietnam Support Base Camp in the US. Established in 2013, the USS Yorktown Foundation is a 501(c) dedicated to raising funds that enhance the educational programs and Museum plan of the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. The Foundation’s mission is to cultivate a unique learning environment that connects generations by celebrating America’s history and its heroes, inspiring freedom, patriotism, leadership, and service.
The DAR Chapter would like to encourage everyone to come to the Florence Veterans Park on November 11 at 3 p.m. for the unveiling of the Korean War Monument of which the Samuel Bacot Chapter is one of the donors. This was done to support our Korean War veterans so that their sacrifices are not forgotten.
