City discusses Vista Streetscape project
The City of Florence announced its Vista Streetscape project at a press conference Friday morning held on the corner property at N. Irby and Vista Street near North Vista Elementary School. The streetscape design was completed by AECOM Engineering and the construction bid was awarded to Evans Paving.
The project will serve as the first of three catalyst projects for the City’s Neighborhood Redevelopment Strategy and includes the following improvements: – New 5 ft. sidewalk along the south side of Vista Street – New ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) ramps on the four corners of the intersection at Irby and Vista Streets including a gateway landscape design on all corners – The addition of street trees (Allee Lacebark Elm) on the north and south side of Vista Street – New 16’ concrete drive aprons for all properties on the southern side of the street – A “raised intersection” with crosswalks at Fraser and Vista, as well as Dargan and Vista to improve safety and pedestrian access to and from Vista Elementary School The total project cost for the Vista Streetscape project is $350,000.
The work associated with these improvements is expected to take three months with an approximate completion of early July, 2016. The construction of new single-family housing along Vista Street will follow the street improvements. The streetscape project will greatly enhance street beautification along this corridor and will initiate the City’s efforts to start revitalization of these neighborhoods, commented City manager Drew Griffin.
