CAPES For Kids 5K/10K is Saturday

CARE House of the Pee Dee will host its 10th annual CAPES (Child Abuse Prevention Education Support) for Kids 5k/10k/Kids Fun Run on Saturday, May 1. The event will be held at Briggs Elementary School on Congaree Drive in Florence. The event began in 2011 in memory of a Carver Elementary student named Tylashia Grant who lost her life due to physical abuse and neglect. Every April, race organizers honor her life while also raising awareness for Child Abuse Prevention Month. The race was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Saturday, Superheroes will be on hand to meet and greet the children. CAPES For Kids will include family-friendly activities, such as a superhero costume contest and vendors for face painting, snow cones and more. Dress as your favorite hero and join the fun. The CAPES for Kids Run will start at 8 a.m. with the 5K run. Check in will begin at 7 a.m. the day of the race. Day of registration closes at 7:45 a.m. Entry fees are $30 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K. On the day of the races, the fee goes up to $40 for the 5K run and $50 for the 10K run. The Kids Fun Run is $5 without shirts and $15 with shirt (only guaranteed if registered early). The Kids Fun will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a Fast Dash for younger children and a 1-mile Fun Run for older children.
