on Wednesday, 05 August 2015. Posted in Local News

Author Van Hipp Will present his new book, “The New Terrorism,” at the Florence County Library on Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. We are living in an era in which terrorism demands our constant attention.

Van Hipp discusses the full range of threats. Not just the constant threats of suicide bombers, airplane hijackings and odious beheadings, but the threats from military and cyber sources. He stresses the need to upgrade our missile defenses, protect ourselves from cyberattacks, and eliminate the dangers posed by our porous borders. He calls on our national leadership to rise to the challenges posed by these dangers, and to undertake the steps that will protect us all from these threats.

Van Hipp is chairman of American Defense International, Inc. (ADI), a Washington, DC based consulting firm specializing in government affairs, business development and public relations. From 1986 to 1989, Van Hipp served as the chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party and served as a member of the Presidential Electoral College in 1988. In 1990, Van Hipp was sworn in as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Reserve Forces and Mobilization) and served in this position during Operation Desert Shield/Storm.

Following the “Tailhook Scandal,” Hipp was named by Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney to be the Principal Deputy General Counsel of the Navy. He served in this capacity until January 1993. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Hipp speaks on defense issues at public forums across the country.
