Second graders at Virtus Academy host baby supply drive for A Choice to Make
The second graders in Ms. Arnold’s class at Virtus Academy learned more than just your average educational skills. The second graders completed a Project Based Learning Unit on citizenship. The unit included learning about important good citizens from the past who have made a difference in history. Once students researched and learned about these good citizens, the students also picked ways to be good citizens in their school. However, their teacher also wanted them to make an impact on the community.
“On February 28th, I attended The Heartbeat Gala for A Choice to Make. While I was listening to the speakers talk about the impact of A Choice to Make in our area, I thought of getting my students involved. They discussed ways to help and one of them was to donate items. I contacted them and then the project began.”
The students opened up the baby supply drive to all students of Virtus Academy. They were able to collect many items to donate to A Choice to Make Pregnancy Resource Center. The students had a responsibility to sort and box the items. “They worked hard throughout the project and not only learned about being a good citizen, but were also given the opportunity to give back to their community.
