Rescheduled International Parade adds downtown festival event - Still recruiting participants

on Wednesday, 06 June 2018. Posted in News, Local News

MINGLE of the Pee Dee is partnering with the Wilson High School I.B. program and the Alliance for Youth to host the first ever Pee Dee International Parade in Florence on Saturday, June 30th at 10 am. The parade, original scheduled for May 19th, was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

The parade will start out on West Evans Street by Edisto and proceed down West Evans to the James Allen Plaza at the corner of Evans and Dargan. After the parade, event partner and sponsor iHeart Media will be hosting a bandstand and family-friendly entertainment event in the historic James Allen Plaza in downtown Florence.

Sponsors and supporters include Diversity Works, iHeart Media, and Honda of SC Manufacturing Inc.

The goal of the parade is to bring people from different cultures together to promote unity in diversity. The parade is accepting floats, dance troupes and musicians from all cultures. The cost is just $25.00 per unit to enter a float or team. Anything over 4 units (in one group) there will be a flat fee of $100.00.

Participants in this parade are encouraged to represent their respective culture and/or country with traditional garb, flags and floats. The parade theme will be “Unity in Diversity”. The community is cordially invited to participate in our parade and show off their entry to a crowd on this special occasion. Or just bring the family and enjoy the parade.
