Reich retires from city post
Ray Reich, who has served as the downtown development manager for the City of Florence since 2011, clocked out for the final time on Friday. He begins a well-deserved retirement.
Reich arrived in Florence from Sumter, where he held a similar position for close to 10 years. He has overseen the revitalization process that has transformed the city’s downtown.
“I’ve had a wonderful career, the first 28 years in the radio broadcasting field and then a second career in downtown and economic redevelopment for the past 18 years,” said Reich in a statement to the media. “ I am fortunate to be able to say that if I could live my life over, I would not change the career paths that I have chosen. As rewarding as it all has been, I think I am now ready to move into the next chapter of life known as retirement.”
Reich said he intends to stay in the Florence area for the next few years.
“I will no doubt find myself working as a volunteer at downtown events,” he said. “The difference will be that as a volunteer I will show up after all the setup is completed and leave before the teardown work begins.”
Hannah Davis is the new Development Manager at the City of Florence. She worked alongside Reich as Downtown Development Coordinator for more than three years. She says she is excited and looking forward to the challenges ahead.
“There’s an energy and vibrancy brewing that I really believe has the opportunity to take off and push us into the next phase of development and growth,” she said.
