Raines Hospitality receives Marriott award
Raines Hospitality was awarded the Marriott Horizon Award at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Kissimmee, FL. on Dec. 10. Ironically, Raines Hospitality founder, Mark Grey Raines, passed away on Dec. 6. The Marriott Horizon Award recognizes the best of the best in hotel management companies that partner with Marriott and is given to companies that embody Marriott’s spirit to serve philosophy, focus on associates to create a well-managed and engaged workforce, and provide outstanding customer service.
The award was presented by Adam Sherer, VP Franchising for Marriott during the awards ceremony in front of 1,200 franchisees and Marriott associates. It will be formally accepted by Mark’s son, Grey Raines, at a later date. Mark Raines got into the hospitality industry in 1988, beginning with a small hotel before moving on and joining other local hotel operations.
This gave him the experience and knowledge to secure his first Marriott franchise. Mark and his brother David, along with their dad Rock Raines, founded Raines Hospitality Inc. in 1997. The family has owned and operated hospitality businesses for over 50 years. Raines Hospitality now owns and operates multiple hotel properties in Florence, including Hotel Florence, Courtyard, SpringHill Suites, Residence Inn and TownePlace Suites by Marriott. The newest property, SpringHill Suites Marriott at Gateway, Mt. Pleasant, broke ground in December 2014 and is scheduled to welcome guests the first quarter of 2016.
