New road will relieve McLaurin School traffic
The City of Florence and Florence School District One announced on March 22 a public roadway partnership to benefit McLaurin Elementary and the City Public Works Dept. McLaurin is one of Florence One’s largest elementary schools with a current enrollment of more than 800 students. It is one of two district schools housing the Montessori Program. The new road will relieve incoming traffic at McLaurin Elementary School by placing a thoroughfare at Freedom Blvd.
“We are excited about the plans to relieve traffic to and from our school,” commented McLaurin principal Debbie Cribb. “The new road will make a positive difference for both car riders and bus students alike. Cribb added that she has wanted this new road for a very long time. It is a safety issue, more than tying up traffic issue. City Manager Drew Griffin said the cost of the $800,000 project will be shared by the city and the school district. He added that the project is ready for bid.
