NeSmith seeks Robinson’s seat
LaShonda C. NeSmith, chairwoman of the Florence County Democratic Party, announced on Monday afternoon her candidacy for the City Council District 2 seat. The seat was previously held by the late Ed Robinson. The unofficial primary date for the seat is June 7 and the election is set, unofficially, for July 26. Nesmith is the owner of NeSmith Insurance Agency, and the recipient of the 2011 SC Black Family Expo Businesswoman of the Year award.
She is the founder of Embrace (a nonprofit organization that serves the youth of the Pee Dee area) and a certified mentor. LaShonda says she cares deeply and passionately about her community. She shows it by her involvement in many local organizations, and by organizing community events and introducing community service initiatives.
Nesmith said she wants to heighten her community service by serving the residents of District 2. She looks forward to being an independent voice on City Council who will represent the entire city, including youth, seniors and our diverse ethnic communities. As a small business owner, Ms. Nesmith will concentrate on increasing the small business sector within the City of Florence. As a hard worker and recognized community leader, she says she will focus on uplifting and restoring our communities. Filing for seat two will begin at noon on April 8 and close at noon on April 18.
