Lifechangers - Local teens spent last week making home repairs for others in the community
A group of local youth from eight Baptist churches participated in LifeChangers in the Florence area last week. More than 60 teens from First Baptist, Calvary Baptist, Quinby Baptist, Coward Baptist, Elim Baptist, Grace Baptist, Southside Baptist and NewSpring churches participated in eight home improvement projects for elderly and handicapped homeowners.
The youth worked Monday through Friday at various sites in the area, usually stopping around 2 p.m. and then meeting at Calvary Baptist Church, where they stayed during the week for showers, afternoon activities and bible studies. They slept on cots and air mattresses at the church. Members from the churches provided meals. “We’ve had so much fun,” said Daniel Collins, who has participated in LifeChangers for the last five years.
“It is such a rewarding experience from year in and year out,” commented Davis Holt. Meagan Garrison, a chaperone with a roofing crew, had high praises for her group. She commented that re-roofing, especially in the heat, is hard work, but the teens were pleasant, eager to help and did not complain. She has served as a LifeChangers chaperone for the past 12 years.
