House of Hope Mission Mart FLORENCE’S FINEST: BEST PLACE TO FIND A BARGAIN
The House of Hope Mission Mart has been chosen by the readers of The News Journal as the 2019 Florence’s Finest Place to Find a Bargain.
Founded in 1990, House of Hope of the Pee Dee is a Christ-based, not-for-profit organization that operates two long-term homeless shelters in Florence, one for women and children and one for men.
To help fund the two shelters, House of Hope also has two Mission Mart stores. The stores resell clean, used items that have been donated by community members. Among the items the Mission Mart sells are women’s clothing, men’s clothing, furniture, children’s clothing, electronics, books, shoes, small and large appliances, sporting goods, lawn and garden and more.
Donated items can be dropped off at either location, or House of Hope Mission Mart has drop boxes set up at seven locations throughout the county. Drop boxes are located at the two store locations, Cornerstone Church, Ebenezer Baptist Church, John Calvin Presbyterian Church, and First Presbyterian Church.
The Mission Mart stores, located at 953 S. Irby Street and at 2523 W. Palmetto St., also provide employment training as well as job opportunities for House of Hope residents.
“When you shop at one of our Mission Mart locations, you are assisting with a vital part of the overall ministry of the House of Hope,” states the House of Hope web site.
According to the House of Hope, its business philosophy is “serving the community one person at a time.”
