Harvest Hope Food Bank hosted packing event in honor of MLK Day
In honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Harvest Hope celebrated his life by hosting a volunteer food packing event on Tuesday, January 22 at SHEREC, 312 Ravenel Street. All food items that were packed were generously sponsored by Duke Energy.
“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said ‘everybody can be great because everybody can serve.’ Today, it gives me great joy to be able to serve and support families in need due to the generosity of Duke Energy,” said Nicole Echols, Harvest Hope Food Bank Florence Donor Relations Manager.
Volunteers from all backgrounds gathered to pack 200 food boxes to be distributed to those in need in a future mobile food pantry. Mobile food pantries exist to serve our neighbors living far from food sources.
“Volunteers are vital to our food bank and carrying out our mission,” says Keith Ferrell, Harvest Hope Interim CEO. “Dr. King showed us what it truly means to show kindness to one another and how important serving one another is.”
