Griffin Plaza fountain offers refreshing relief from heat
A new attraction in downtown Florence has a lot of kids splashing around and having a good time.
City officials announced the opening of Andrew H. Griffin Plaza on Dargan Street, which includes an interactive water feature.
The interactive water feature is designed for children 12 and under.
It includes “eight spray jets with one center column of water to cool off with this summer. A variety of features are included with various programmed spray effects, such as alternating heights of water, spray jets “chasing” each other, and LED lighting of the streams.“
An attendant will be present in the plaza area during the hours for the water feature.
Some parents said the park is a great idea and just what they needed for their kids to have fun.
“This is a way they can have fun. We can cool off. Go to museum first and then take them to this afterward. And I think it's just a really great idea to have this,” said Melinda Sellers.
The park will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The City of Florence plans to hold a formal dedication at a later date.
