Free tax assistance at Florence library
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest, free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service, will assist taxpayers with income tax returns at the Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library.
This free service is for all taxpayers with low, moderate and middle income with special attention to those 60 and older.
Tax preparers will be available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through April 15. There will be both “Walk In” and “Appointments” areas. The First Come/First Served taxpayers will continue to use the second floor Computer Training Room. The appointment area will be off the lower porch with access only through an outside door.
Tax preparers will begin shortly after 9 a.m. and take the last taxpayer around 4:30 p.m. each day.
There will be two Saturday sessions, Feb. 29 and March 14. These will be walk-in only.
Tax-Aide will also be at Baker Memorial Public Library in Timmonsville on Thursdays, starting on Thursday, Feb. 6. They will serve both walk-ins and appointments beginning at 10:30 a.m. and will be able to take the last taxpayer around 5:30 p.m.
Taxpayers must bring all relevant documents with them including photo identification; Social Security cards for all names on the return; last year’s tax return and anything received that is labeled “Important 2019 Tax Information”. This includes W-2s, 1099s, Social Security statement, child-care expense statement, and educational statements.
