FMU Homecoming set for Feb. 6
Francis Marion University will celebrate its 2016 Homecoming on Saturday, Feb. 6. Additional events are scheduled throughout the week leading up to the big day. FMU’s men’s and women’s basketball teams square off against Peach Belt foe Flagler College in the Smith University Center gym, in the Homecoming centerpiece. The women’s game begins at 1:30 p.m.
The men’s game follows at about 3:30 p.m. A Hall of Fame induction ceremony for former Patriot athletes Michael Colaiacovo (’92), former cross country and track and field team member, and Mary Jackson (’92), former volleyball and basketball player, will be held between the men’s and women’s games.
The Homecoming king and queen will be crowned following the men’s game. As usual, the Homecoming doubleheader is free. Saturday’s Homecoming festivities begin at 11 a.m. with alumni basketball games in the Smith Center. Pre-game tailgating, new to the FMU celebration this year, is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. and conclude at 7 p.m.
A Homecoming parade through campus is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. PatriotFest, featuring live music and entertainment, begins at 12:15 p.m. in front of the Smith Center. FMU’s baseball team takes on Claflin University at 3 p.m. on Homecoming Saturday, while the Patriot softball team battles Southern Wesleyan University in a twinbill at 2 p.m. and the men’s and women’s tennis teams square off against Queens University of Charlotte at 1 p.m.
The FMU Athletic Department will sponsor the 18th-annual Swamp Fox Club Benefit Silent Auction, featuring sports memorabilia and merchandise, beginning at 1 p.m. in the Smith University Center gymnasium. All proceeds from the auction will support Patriot athletics. Also on Saturday, the Patriot Bookstore in the Smith University Center will offer special Homecoming sales.
